USING WEB INTELLIGENCE REPORTS AS A SOURCE FOR LUMIRA AND DESIGN STUDIO

Web Intelligence

Web Intelligence is part of SAP BusinessObjects product suite used for analytical and ad hoc reporting to meet an organization’s business requirements. Web Intelligence is a Business Intelligence reporting tool for business users to analyze data in Data Warehouse. It assists business managers in the decision-making process for building future strategies. Using Web Intelligence, business users can create basic, medium, and complex reports from transactional data in database and by creating Universes using Information Design Tool/UDT. Various SAP and non-SAP data sources can be used to create reports in Web Intelligence. SAP Business Warehouse (BW) system doesn’t require a Universe to connect to Web Intelligence tool. Web Intelligence tool can work as a client tool of BusinessObjects platform and also as a standalone tool for reporting

Design Studio

Design Studio is the professionally authored dashboarding and application building tool from SAP. It should be used for all such Projects where delivery of larger data sets that SAP dashboard does not perform well with. It has its own server side processing engine and all of its output is HTML5 which means it is automatically mobile ready. Additionally, APOS has a Data Gateway that allows you to connect to additional data sources with added data volume potential. And finally, with the imminent release of Design Studio 1.5 we also plan to add parallel query processing.

Lumira

SAP Lumira is a self-service solution that allows analysts and decision makers to access, transform, and visualize data. With Lumira, business analysts can connect to multiple data sources, mash the data together, massage and manipulate it, create beautiful visualizations and stories that they can then share via either on-premise or cloud based platforms. Lumira is the tool when it comes to Data exploring and visualizations. Lumira lets business users take the advantage of the fun, intuitive and innovative capabilities of Lumira while providing IT with the security and governance needed in an enterprise deployment of data discovery. We call this Trusted Data Discovery. Along with this new deployment option you can also expect to see new features like a new Universe query panel for .unx universes, a new cross-table for OLAP-like data analysis, new interaction capabilities with info-graphics, and updates to the ways that you can use our integrated ESRI geospatial capabilities.

APOS Data Gateway

The APOS Data Gateway is a data connection and data transformation solution which provides extended data source and data volume options for SAP Lumira and SAP Design Studio. It also enables enhanced interoperability with BI components across the SAP landscape. There are versions of the APOS Data Gateway for SAP Lumira and for SAP Design Studio.

The APOS Data Gateway for SAP Lumira allows you to:

Connect to Web Intelligence reports as a data source for Lumira
Connect Lumira to any relational data source

APOS Data Gateway, Lumira Edition

The Lumira Edition of the APOS Data Gateway supports data discovery from an expanded range of trusted enterprise data sources, including data from any database or from blocks of data in Web Intelligence reports and report instances. The Lumira Edition provides this support through two key components:

Web Intelligence Connector
Direct Data Connector

APOS Trusted Data Source Connector

The APOS Trusted Data Source Connector lets you leverage the trusted data, data connections business rules of Web Intelligence reports and instances. This connector allows you to:

Inherit Web Intelligence data connection options such as UNV,HANA, UNX, and BEx
Leverage the Web Intelligence calculation engine
Leverage existing Web Intelligence reports for shorter time to value

Use Web Intelligence instances to access pre-loaded and pre-calculated data The value is clear: by using the APOS Trusted Data Source Connector with the APOS Data Gateway, you leverage the investment already made by your enterprise in the development of Web Intelligence -- all of the data connection options, and all of the data preparations and calculations. By leveraging these assets, you greatly shorten the amount of time it takes to realize value through your SAP Lumira data visualizations.

Direct Data Connector

The Direct Data Connector lets you connect to any relational database using either of the following connection types:

Dynamic connection - sending a SQL statement of your construction or choice to the database
Stored Query connnection - using a pre-configured query with parameters

The Direct Data Connector lets you acquire any data from any relational database and use aggregate queries to speed data acquisition.

APOS Data Gateway Server

All APOS Data Gateway connectors use another component, the APOS Data Gateway Server. The connectors reside on the desktop and the APOS Data Gateway Server connects, with authentication, and using SAP BusinessObjects SDKs, to the selected databases and/or Web Intelligence reports within the SAP BusinessIObjects environment.

APOS Data Gateway, Design Studio Edition

The Design Studio Edition of the APOS Data Gateway supports data connectivity to an expanded range of trusted enterprise data sources, including data from any database, from blocks of data in Web Intelligence documents, or from universes (both UNV and UNX). The Design Studio Edition provides this support through four key components:

Web Intelligence Connector
Identity Controller
Direct Data Connector
Relational Grid

APOS Trusted Source Connector

The APOS Trusted Source Connector lets you leverage the trusted data, data connections business rules of Web Intelligence reports and instances. This connector allows you to:

Inherit Web Intelligence data connection options such as UNV,HANA, UNX, and BEx
Leverage the Web Intelligence calculation engine
Leverage existing Web Intelligence reports for shorter time to value
Use Web Intelligence instances to access pre-loaded and pre-calculated data

The value is clear: by using the APOS Trusted Source Connector with the APOS Data Gateway, you leverage the investment already made by your enterprise in the development of Web Intelligence — all of the data connection options, and all of the data preparations and calculations. By leveraging these assets, you greatly shorten the amount of time it takes to realize value through your SAP Design Studio projects.

In addition, the Direct Data Connector for SAP Design Studio also provides direct access for your Design Studio projects HANA tables, allowing you to bypass HANA Views.

Relational Grid

The APOS Data Gateway's Relational Grid lets you bring an unlimited amout of relational data into Design Studio, overcoming the solution's current limits on relational data, and displays that data with great speed — high relational data volume at high speed.

Identity Controller

The APOS Data Gateway Identity Controller allows dashboard design to be driven by flexible row-level security. It determines the components and data that appear in a dashboard according to the SAP BusinessObjects user logging in to view the dashboard. What this means in practice is that designers can use SAP BusinessObjects Groups to customize dashboards, a feature that is quite valuable in multi-tenancy environments.
